You’ve probably seen the comments: “Why don’t schools teach budgeting, sewing, or cooking anymore?”
Good news—we do!
At Fredonia Junior/Senior High School, our Independent Living class is all about real-world skills. Today, seniors learned how to sew on a button and mend clothing, and next week they’ll dive into budgeting. Practical skills, real life, happening right here at FJSHS.

As the Fredonia High School Culinary class kicks off its international foods unit, students had the special opportunity to welcome guest speaker Michaela Grunder to class over the past two days. Michaela shared highlights from her year traveling around the world, giving students a firsthand look at foods and cultures she experienced along the way. Today, she rolled up her sleeves and worked alongside students as they prepared traditional Argentine dishes—chipa and chimichurri—bringing global flavors straight into the kitchen.

Best of luck to our competitors as they take part in the County Spelling Bee this morning in Neodesha. Spellers will take the stage at 9:00 AM in the Neodesha High School Auditorium. Go Jackets!

FCCLA members Jossilyn Miller and Eden Hill worked with our Kindergarten students through their STAR Event, Manners Make the Magic Happen. During their first visit, they taught the importance of manners and how to greet others with kindness and respect. On their second visit, they focused on table manners, helping students practice polite habits they can use every day.
A fun, meaningful experience that made learning manners engaging and memorable for our youngest Jackets!
