FJSHS students are making a commitment to Choose to Include through our Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Banner Program. A National Banner Unified Champion School demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusion through Unified Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole-School Engagement.
FJSHS students participate in Unified basketball, track and field, cornhole, bowling, bocce, and football. Our trained coaches, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Salmon, Mrs. Robinson, and Vicki Starr, help lead these programs while ensuring athletes and partners are recognized just like all other school activities.
Students with and without disabilities also work together in leadership roles through organizations and Circle of Friends clubs at both the junior high and high school levels. School-wide activities like the Polar Plunge and “Choose to Include” campaign continue to promote inclusion across our district.
FJSHS earned National Banner status for 2024–2026 and plans to reapply for the 2028–2029 cycle as we continue creating opportunities where every student belongs.

After 36 years of dedicated service, USD #484 Nutrition Services Director Kathy is beginning a well-earned retirement. For more than three decades, Kathy has worked behind the scenes to make sure students were provided with healthy meals and cared for each day.
Reflecting on her time at USD #484, Kathy shared, “There have been many changes in school food service in the last 36 years. I have always done my best to keep up with the changes to keep kids fed healthy meals that they would like.”
Her advice to others comes from years of experience and perspective: “My advice would be to take one day at a time & enjoy each day because they sure go fast.”
Thank you, Kathy, for your years of hard work, dedication, and care for the students and staff of USD #484. Your impact has been felt far beyond the cafeteria, and you will be greatly missed. Congratulations on your retirement, and best wishes in this next chapter!
